Hi ! I wanted something bright and cheerful to introduce this gallery so, I decided to use a recent
picture I did of a Fall scene near our home in Rhode Island. Nothing beats the color variety of the
swamp maples in the Northeast.
When I started to put this show together I didn't have a theme in mind but, now looking at it, I
guess it is mostly marine. Browse at your leisure and enjoy.
If you would like some
music for company as you stroll through the Gallery, please click on the appropriate tab below.
I selected some fiddle tunes this time. For those of you who think that fiddle tunes are all like the
"Old Time Medley" posted below, click on any of the two waltzes and be suprised. I wish I could play
as sweet as Ludiker.
If you like my work, please
click on the SIGN MY DREAMBOOK link at the bottom of this page and place your
comments or just leave your e-mail address if you wish me to notify you when
a new show is hung.

A Bit of a Blow
This guy is doing O.K. You pray for some good wind but, sometimes, it gets to be a bit much.
|
 |
Tug Pickup
This guy is coming in a little too hot for the tug to pick him up here. He has just started to furl his sails
and has not yet come up into the wind or hauled on his braces to bring the sails into the wind
to cut his speed.

 |
Days Catch
This guy is coming in with his days catch of quohogs. When I was claming the company boat would meet
us out where we were working and buy our days catch right there. This saved us a trip to the
company dock to unload our clams.

A Good Book
Some time ago,I painted this fellow as a distant figure along the shore. This time we are close enough to see that he
is not interested in fishing so much as getting away from the crowd and relaxing with a good book.

LakeFishing
Some people are lake people and some are ocean people.
I prefer the ocean myself but it sure looks peaceful here.

Provincetown
Provinctown is one of my favorite places to paint because of the picturesque scenes at
low tide. It is one of the few places this far south of the land of big tidal changes
(Maine and Nova Scotia) where the change in tides leaves many boats high and dry.

 |
Beavertail
Beavertail Light is one of my favorites and I have painted it against many of the moods that
are reflected by the sea and sky. This view is from the East Passage side of the point.

Buglight
Duxbury Pier Light (affectionately known as "Bug Light" by the locals) was built
in 1871 and was the first offshore cast-iron casson lighthouse erected in the United States.
It marks a dangerous shoal off Saquish Head in Plymouth Bay on the north side of the main channel to Plymouth, Duxbury,
and Kingston. The lighthouse was automated in 1964 and is still in operation.

Coveredbridge
Many of the covered bridges in New England have disapeared but, there still are some
in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. I painted this soon after attending a workshop
given by Tony Couch. His influence is obvious here.

Color Storm
I'll leave you with this fun color sketch that I completed after a workshop with Don Andrews.
Don pushed us all with color.
